Stroke Rehabilitation Program

The Stroke Rehabilitation Program at the Penn Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine provides comprehensive services for stroke patients and their caregivers. A team of stroke specialists, including physical, speech and occupational therapists and rehabilitation nurses, is directed and monitored by a physician specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation (physiatrist).

Upon admission, patients and their families discuss their goals with the stroke rehabilitation team. Together, they develop a treatment plan to help reach those goals. All involved parties then meet on a regular basis to assess the patient’s progress.

The beds at the Penn Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine are licensed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. The rehabilitation program and services bring together the best of Good Shepherd and the University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS).
