Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Program
Good Shepherd Penn Partners (GSPP) will begin accepting individuals with spinal cord injuries in 2009. The Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation Program at the Penn Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine will offer an aggressive, holistic approach to rehabilitation designed to restore patients to their highest physical, social and emotional potential. A team of spinal cord injury specialists, including physical, speech and occupational therapists and rehabilitation nurses, is directed and monitored by a physician specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation (physiatrist).
Throughout treatment, patients and families become an integral part of the rehabilitation team and help to identify individual needs and goals. As Good Shepherd Penn Partners' team meets on a regular basis, patient progress is assessed and treatment goals are developed and adjusted.
The beds at the Penn Institute for Rehabilitation Medicine are licensed to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. The rehabilitation program and services bring together the best of Good Shepherd and the University of Pennsylvania Health System (UPHS).
